Story 52

A BARGE ALONG THE STAFFS AND WORCESTER CANAL

Last May I decided to celebrate my 50th year as a photographer by publishing an image each week for a year from my archives of negatives. Little did I know 52 weeks later that I would be living in a totally different world. There is not one soul on this planet that has not been touched in some way by the Covid-19 Pandemic. And for all of us, the world over, life will be forever changed.

So, I'm at week 52, the end of my retrospective and the work has become almost overnight no longer a collection of visual stories but a testament to our changing lives.

My last image for the year was also my first ever reject, 50 years almost to the day. The rejection was from Life Magazine for a story I wanted to do on the remnants of the Industrial Revolution in England.  It included, amongst others, this image of a coal barge travelling along the Staffs and Worcester Canal.
