ODE TO COLUMBINE – 20th APRIL 1999

Innocence lost.  She could only be, what, five years old in her pretty frock and her hair so perfectly braided.  Not quite tall enough to see the screen of the arcade game she was pretending to play at the Greyhound Station in Denver the day after two teenage boys took the lives of thirteen innocents.  That was 21 years ago, the promises made after that rampage now long forgotten.  I wonder what promises we will make once this pandemic has subsided and we are free to go about our new-normal existence – will those promises also be forgotten?
