THE TEA DANCE
This was the first photograph created for a photo-essay about dance and how and why and where we dance. Shot at the Waldorf Hotel in London, one of the last places where you can still go to an afternoon Tea Dance - ballroom dancing with live Big Band. The Waldorf has held Tea Dances in their iconic Palm Court since 1908. The Tea Dance, a staple of genteel society, according to many books of fiction, was popular during World War II amongst American GIs looking to meet young English ladies.
